Bethany Christian Hospital is the vision of a man who has carried a burden for India’s poor since his childhood as an ‘untouchable’ Dalit in a poor Indian village. As a young boy, he was rescued from the brink of death by the kindness of a Christian missionary who found and carried his malnourished body from the side of a road to a local hospital. As a teenager, he was forced to do all he could to care for his dying mother in their home because his family could not afford to take her to a hospital.
Today, with a deep understanding of the value of good hospitals and the need for their services to be more accessible to the poor in India, Yesupadam of Love-N-Care Ministries hopes to provide poor families like his with the opportunity to receive treatment at a quality Christian hospital.
While seeking to meet all the medical needs of the people in the community around Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Bethany Christian Hospital will specialize in treating cancer patients, children, and pregnant women. Yesupadam watched his wife die of cancer after it was discovered in the late stages of development, was himself rescued from starvation as a young boy, and has witnessed the need for pregnant women in impoverished areas to be provided with quality medical care to safely give birth to their children.
Bethany Christian Hospital will provide free service for the poor and needy, and by charging those who can afford it, will in turn become self-sufficient and serve as a medical training facility where even poor children can train to become pharmacists, lab technicians, x-ray technicians, and other paramedical professionals. This kind of training will enable students to find excellent jobs immediately anywhere in India or abroad!
